Jim, a native of Goshen, played High School soccer at Goshen High School.  Jim went on and played collegiate soccer at Dominican College and Montclair State University. Coach Lagarde has over 25 years of coaching experience.  He has earned one of the highest honors and Coaching Diploma’s in the U.S.- the Master Coach Diploma through the United Soccer Coaches Association, formerly NSCAA.  In addition to the Master Coach Diploma he has his NSCAA International Premier Coaching Diploma, which he completed in Curitiba, Brazil in partnership with Athletico Paranaense along with the Advanced National Coaching Diploma, National Coaching Diploma, National High School Coaches Diploma, National Director of Coaching Diploma, and National Goalkeeping Diploma.  Jim was the boys’ varsity soccer head coach at Burke Catholic High School from 1998-2005.  Coach Jim has lead several teams over the years to Championships, recently winning the 2017 Eastern NY State Cup and the 2018 U17 National Premier League Championship, US Club NY State Cup, Eastern NY State Cup, along with multiple Premier League Championships and many National tournament championships.


Jim was the founder/partner of Primo Sport Center (2007) and Primo FC (2013).  In order to ensure the continued success, progression and development of players, George Altirs and Jim came together to form Capelli Sport Center and Cedar Stars Academy Hudson Valley in 2016.  Since the partnership, Cedar Stars Academy Hudson Valley has emerged as one of the top Soccer Clubs in the Hudson Valley and in the Fall of 2019 will compete in the prestigious National League within Eastern Development Program.




Dan joined Cedar Stars Academy Hudson Valley in the fall of 2019 and will be taking on the role of Program Director for the 2020/2021 season. With 10 years of coaching experience in both the U.S and U.K, Dan brings a vast amount of knowledge to the club having worked with players and teams of varying ages and levels including club, academy, high school and collegiate. 


Born and raised in Plymouth, England, Dan worked his way through the ranks at his home town club Plymouth Argyle before signing for Portsmouth FC as a youth professional. Following his return to Plymouth, Dan continued his playing career for several semi-pro clubs in South West England. During this time he began his coaching career with the desire to help guide the next generation of players.


Dan currently holds a USSF D License, The FA Level 2 Coaching Certification, Level 1 Futsal Diploma and Level 1 Goalkeeping Diploma through the United Soccer Coaches Association, formerly NSCAA. Through his professional playing and coaching experience, Dan will be able to motivate and inspire players and teams to perform at their optimal level.



As a leader in player development at Cedar Stars Academy Bergen and Bergen West since 2017, Declan brings more than 10 years of international coaching experience to CSA Hudson Valley. He is committed to providing youth players with a professional coaching experience that is detailed, relevant and realistic to allow each player to  strive and express themselves to reach the next level in their soccer pathway.


Currently completing his US Soccer B license, Declan holds his Scottish Football Association Level 3, Scottish Football Association Goalkeeping Level 1, United Soccer Coaches Director of Coaching Diploma and a Coerver Youth Diploma. 


His experience coaching at club and professional youth level,  along with his playing career through the professional youth system in Scotland at Celtic, Hibernian, Livingston and Stenhousemuir has laid a strong foundation allowing Declan to provide vision and growth for CSA Hudson Valley’s Zone 1 players and coaches both on and off the field.




Coach Christian Henry enters his fifth year with Cedar Stars Academy Hudson Valley for the 2020/2021 season. 


As a Coach, Christian has worked with players and teams of all age groups throughout his time at the club. Christian has coached 2008 Boys, 2006 Boys, 2006/2007 Girls, 2004 Boys and 2003 Boys. In addition to his work at CSA, Coach Christian is the Director of Player Development at Eastern Pike Youth Soccer Club and an Assistant Coach for both JV and Varsity for the DV High School Boys program. He currently holds his USSF F license, 11v11 Course, and United Soccer Coach Futsal Diploma. 


As a player, Christian earned All-state and All-American honors at Delaware Valley before signing to Division I University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Christian then went on trials in the United States, Sweden, Finland and Ireland. After his time abroad, Christian signed to play for UPSL, NPSL, and USL 2 sides.




Coach Jarrad Vrydaghs has enjoyed success both as a player and a coach throughout his soccer career. A graduate of Goshen Central High School, Jarrad’s impressive individual honors include being named on the First Team All - Section and NYSPHSAA First Team All - State. He showed no sign of slowing down when he decided to embark on the next stage of his journey as he graduated from SUNY Ulster earning accolades including First Team All - Region, First Team All - National Tournament Team and Second Team All - American.


Jarrad currently holds the USSF D License and NSCAA National Diploma. Combining an impressive High School and Collegiate career alongside years of coaching experience, he is able to instill his ideas and philosophies to players at Cedar Stars Academy Hudson Valley.

Aaron joins Cedar Stars Academy bringing a wealth of experience that comes from 20 years of coaching within the Hudson Valley and throughout the broader tri-state area. This includes coaching players at all ages and ability levels, from 3 and 4-year-old beginners, to travel and pre-academy teams, to semi-professional players aspiring to reach the highest levels of the game.

Growing up locally, Aaron attended high school at Pine Bush and played for the Town of Wallkill Soccer Club from ages 4-18. He then went on to play collegiately at the University of Rhode Island for three years, and at SUNY Cortland for two years.


An injury ended his playing career early but also allowed him to pursue coaching as a career at only 21 years old.

Achieving his United States Soccer Federation (USSF) A license in 2011, he currently holds his USSF B license. Aaron also holds a United Soccer Coaches - Coach Developer Diploma, was formerly a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and has been certified as a Performance Enhancement Specialist by NASM.

Aaron returns to coaching in the Hudson Valley after spending the last 10 years working for the New York Red Bulls Youth Programs. He is hoping to be able to use his knowledge and experience in player development to give the youth of the Hudson Valley opportunities to realize their potential and achieve their goals in the game of soccer.

Ashley Mann is one of our Cedar Stars coaches with an extensive soccer background. Ashley was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and grew up as an elite multi-sport athlete. Her deep passion and love for the sport of soccer had her competing at the highest levels from a young age. 


Some of her most highlighted soccer accomplishments include playing on the Ontario Provincial Team, being named a first-team all-star and four-year letter winner in High School, playing three years at the club level for the St. Catherine’s Jets of the Ontario Women’s Soccer League, winning the Ontario Cup in 2007, and receiving a full athletic soccer scholarship to the University At Albany, State University of New York (SUNY) which brought Ashley to the United States at age 17. During Ashley’s Division 1 Collegiate Career at UAlbany she became a co-captain in her senior year and broke the all-time points record as well as the all-time scoring record in 2009. She was also named to the America East Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll multiple seasons of her UAlbany soccer career.  After receiving a Master’s Degree in Social Work from UAlbany, she moved to Colorado Springs, CO where she started coaching soccer at the youth level.


As a coach, Ashley is focused on enhancing individual player development and growth on and off the field, and committed to creating a positive and competitive team culture. She is excited to continue to share her passion and knowledge of soccer with the girls of the Hudson Valley in hopes that players will find love for the sport and be provided with great opportunities.



Mike Drake, was born and raised in Highland, NY.  Coach Mike has 40 years of playing experience with his career starting at the tender age of 5 where he started his journey at his local rec club before graduating to Highland Travel Soccer Club. Mike played for Highland High School and then moved on to represent Marist College as the starting goalkeeper.


Coach Mike has been coaching for 25 years where he started his journey as the assistant girls varsity coach for Highland High School. Mike served as the president for New Paltz Travel Soccer. Before merging with Cedar Stars Academy, Coach Mike worked with Primo FC where he has built solid relationships with many of the players. He is currently the assistant men's coach at SUNY New Paltz. 


Coaching certifications include a USSF D License and National Goalkeeper Training Certificate.
