Tinton Falls, NJ - Cedar Stars Academy – Monmouth, the youth soccer club with official Boys and Girls U.S. Soccer Development Academy member status, hosted its first annual Holiday Donation Drive with Fulfill (Formerly known as FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties) on Thursday, November 30, 2017.
The youth soccer club invited its student-athletes and their families to participate in this year’s initiative at the state-of-the-art Capelli Sport Complex in Tinton Falls, on Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Through an internal point system, the club’s teams were challenged to come together and raise food based and monetary donations, which went directly to Fulfill and its efforts to feed hungry families during the holiday season.
Through this event, more than four crates were filled and more than $1,900 was donated by the Cedar Stars Academy – Monmouth families, creating more than 6,400 meals according to Fulfill.
“Our club mission focuses on developing successful individuals, both on and off the field,”
Cedar Stars Academy president George Altirs said.
“By organizing the Holiday Donation Drive with Fulfill, we were able to provide our players with an opportunity to give back to the community. We are overwhelmed and proud of the response and efforts that were put forth by our families.”
During the Holiday Donation Drive event, Fulfill (formerly The FoodBank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties) organized a truck appearance to collect the generosity and efforts of the players and their families and to spread awareness of hunger here at home. Fulfill distributed 13 million meals to more than 300 feeding programs in Monmouth & Ocean Counties this year.
“We love it when the community comes together to help our neighbors in need,”
said Judy Daniels, Fulfill Community Engagement Coordinator.
"We depend on food and fund donations all year round, but they are especially appreciated during the holidays when families gather around the table.”
According to its internal records, Fulfill, on average, distributed more than 1.3 million meals in the month of November alone.
Cedar Stars Academy – Monmouth’s current membership includes more than 800 student-athletes from the U5-U19 age groups. When they are not training and competing at various levels of youth soccer competition throughout the country, Cedar Stars Academy is focused on providing initiatives that lead to life lessons and opportunities for individual development off the field.
“Community outreach will continue to be a growing initiative for our club,” Cedar Stars Academy’s Executive Vice President of Club Development Charlie Naimo said.
“During the Holiday Donation Drive, you could see the joy on the players’ faces as they were filling the Fulfill food crates. They wanted to be a part of the movement; they wanted to make a difference. It is an honor to be part of a club that came together this holiday season.”
